I am One Month!

Wow how time really flies! Things were so hectic at the end of the pregnancy that I realized I never kept you updated.

Birth Story:
Well, long story short on 22 July at 10am my water broke. I called L & D and they said to come on in to get monitored and to check the fluid levels etc. Kyle and I thought maybe we weren't really going to be admitted (you know maybe I had had an accident haha). We decided to do the trip to the hospital as a trial run. We got what was left of our bags packed, loaded up the car and stopped at Wendy's for some Chicken Nuggets. (I wanted to make sure I ate something in case I was really in labor and wouldn't get food for a while (Smart thinking on our part!).)

So we arrive, they do some awesome monitoring and evaluation and sure enough there was a water leak! They said I would have 24 hours to deliver otherwise they would have to do a c-section. Well for those of you who are reading this and know me, I was scared of getting a c-section (as was Kyle) and I refused to ever take pitocin or an epidural. Within the first hour at the hospital I was already being given pitocin, which I knew would make the contractions TeRRIBLE, because I was having regular contractions but nothing that I could feel= they weren't doing a damn thing. So they started the pitocin and after some minor setbacks- AKA a stubborn baby- I finally caved into an epidural. I bawled through the entire thing simply because I was petrified to get it! (When I was 16 and sick they did a spinal tap and I swore that I would never get an epidural.) After the anesthesiologist tried to get the epidural in 4/5 times they couldn't remember the actual number, but I was feeling wonderful. IF there are ever any more kids in our future I will be requesting an epidural ASAP lol. So things went really fast from there. Epidural was put in at 7ish pm and by 9:30 pm everything was a go to have this baby. Well everything but me! Apparently, when they told me it was time to push I said NO! Hahaha- stubborn baby= stubborn mommy. You would think that after 38 weeks and 5 days I would want this baby to come out and of course he did but good lord I wasn't ready. Well, let me say, if you have ever been in a delivery room you see a nice room with a bed and couch/chair. You wonder where the crazy equipment that the doctors need to help you deliver the baby. Well in 30 seconds flat things were pushed into the room, people where everywhere and yes, SHIT WAS FALLING FROM THE SKY! (Really it was just a light for the doctor but apparently I thought it was a UFO hahahahha). So 15 minutes of pushing later and viola a baby is born. I make it sound so pleasant and easy- HELLS TO THE NO! But yes, it is one of the easiest pains to forget once you have that baby in your arms.

He weighed in at 7lbs 7oz, 20.5 inches long. He was perfect. After a long stay in the hospital (thanks to stinker coming later at night) I was able to go home to my puppy, my bed and the family members visiting.

**Please note that I spared you a million and one TERRIBLE details about the actual laboring process thanks to the stubborn baby. However, if you ever want to hear about them, please feel free to contact me. :-P**

One Month Later
What a month. I look back at that day and think, WOW- I did that?! Now, as I type this, that baby is sleeping soundly in his play pen and dreaming about whatever it is babies dream about.

In this one month I have learned so much about myself and about Connor. First, we had visitors for most of the first month which made it go by so quickly and smoothly. Thanks to my parents and sister and Kyle's parents for all of their help. I would probably have been a frazzled mess without you. Now with everyone gone and Kyle back to work, it's just me and Connor. Some times it's just me and Connor for a few days, and soon it will be me and Connor for a few weeks because of the boat's schedule. But that is besides the point.

What matters is that we have figured each other out. I know that from 7-8/9 he gets fussy and if you wait long enough you can give him a second bottle and he will pass out until 1am. I know that when he has a bad belly ache from gas that putting him on my shoulder and rubbing his back will help him feel better. I know when my baby is sick- right now he has the beginnings of a cold and I called it way early because I know my child. It's crazy to look back on how scared you think you will be and see now that sure, it's scary as hell to be handed a human being and be responsible for them growing up. But I look into those beautiful blue eyes every morning and know that he was meant to be here with us, and God did give me whatever I need to help me through the tough times (no I am not turning all Jesus crazy on you... I am just saying that sometimes my pessimism about higher powers should be ignored).

Alright so Connor is currently napping about 4-6 times a day ranging from 30 minute naps to 3 hour snoozes. He sleeps from 9/10pm- 1am, 2am-5/6am, then we snuggle and take another nap getting up around 9-10 am. He is eating like a champ coming in at 3-4oz in a feeding every 2-4 hours. He can hold his head up on his own, he rolls onto his side (which is his preferred method of sleeping), and he can push himself up. He also has began to smile and coo which I am totally in love with. I get a smile most mornings now. Overall he is healthy minus the tiny cold he has contracted. Oh, he loves car rides, his swing, the musical giraffe in his room and most of all the Baby Bjourn.

Well since this is long enough now I am going to say I promise to update once a month to show his progress and keep family and friends up to date.

Oh, and please bare with us we are ordering the Birth Announcements soon and will have them out (probably sometime before he gets married). Have a wonderful day everyone!

Happy Birthday!

"This should be interesting..."

After getting both kids to bed (before 8pm mind you!) I have finally had time to sit down and decompress. My morning started out with Emilee stirring in her crib around 4am. I quickly grabbed her and put her in our bed to fall back asleep as she normally does. She started stirring around again at 6am which was my cue to get out of bed and get dressed and ready to leave for her eye appointment. I woke up with that "this should be an interesting day" feeling and low and behold, it was. It was 6:55 when I realized that our wonderful sitter hadn't arrived yet. She is never late, even the one time she thought she was going to be late she was still five minutes early. So when she wasn't here at 7, my mind went crazy. Was she in an accident, had something happened with her family... the list went on with the craziness of Philly news. I sent a text at 7:05 and nothing. I finally switched from worried mom mode to get-in-the-damn-car mode to make the appointment on time. (I...

Weeks 23 and 24

Once again things got pretty busy and I did not update for week 23. This is mainly because my sister, brother in-law and nephew came for a visit! It was a great week full of food, Blue Angel Practice Show, Exploreum, putt putt golfing, some shopping and so much more! It was a great opportunity for Kyle and me to be tourists in the town we live in. All in all it was awesome to spend time with the family and show them around. 23 weeks was rather uneventful in terms of Connor. We did have a doctors appointment last Monday and the doctor wrote me a prescription for Nexium for the AWFUL acid reflux that I was having. Now I can enjoy food again without the terrible burning sensations. He also told us that the 20 week ultrasound showed a nice healthy baby with "no gross abnormalities". I could finally sigh in relief knowing that the ultrasound came back great. Now to actually see Connor and check for all 10 fingers and toes! Otherwise he is kicking and hitting up a storm. Kyle was...
