Where have I been?!

Am I really getting a chance to update the blog?? What?! It has been a busy couple of weeks and for that I apologize for not updating. But, C'mon, I must hold some world record for the most Facebook posts, in which I keep you up to date on the 2 year old Shenanigans, my pregnancy woes and doctor appointment status'.

And in the last 9 days there have been many doctor appointment updates. Here's the summary:
Wednesday 6th- I went for a routine OB appointment. When the nurse measured my fundal height (Aka the belly measurements) she found I was measuring on the smaller side and as a precaution wanted to schedule a quick growth ultrasound.

Thursday 7th- we went to the orientation for new patients at the hospital we are delivering at. It wasn't a terrible orientation but we felt that the hospital is very pushy in their ideals (plus they are endorsing the "Baby Friendly" hospital which was created by Michelle Obama). Not a huge deal for me as I guess I already have the "baby friendly" approach but I felt that it was a tad condescending towards mothers and fathers who wanted alternative options for their newborn. Plus, it will just be weird not to deliver at the Naval Hospital **sigh**. Quick vacation while in labor?? haha!

Friday 8th- I had the ultrasound and Emilee is measuring in the 34th percentile. Of course, I know these estimates can be wrong and off by a pound in either direction. So I really don't stress too much. But, I have stocked up on smaller sized clothes as Connor was 7lb 7oz at birth and he wore newborn clothes for about 3 weeks following birth. If E is on the smaller side then I wanted to be prepared this time. She is also head down and facing my spine, and unwilling to move while they tried to take a picture of her face for me. Ha! Stubborn? OF COURSE, our children are just tiny stubborn versions of ourselves ;-).

A nice medical break between Friday and then Yesterday-- Oh goodness, yesterday.

As most people are aware (either through Facebook or being around him) he has what appears to be allergy symptoms. It started at 6 months old when he broke out into a rash on his stomach, spread to his back, chest, and 3 months later we were still dealing with the problem. No topical ointment helped and finally as a last straw they suggested doing an antihistamine and within one dose the rash was almost cleared up. This past spring was awful between March and May. The record showed that I had called in 3 times and taken him in 2 times for what we thought was a cold and the pediatrician said that they believed it was allergies. So he took Benadryl for a few days and then switched to Zyrtec for the remainder of the season. It sucked to have a drugged 1.5 year old. He was lazy and just not himself. (And yes, on some days I was thankful to have a slight break from his usual energetic self. However, I hated to see him wanting to sleep rather than run around outside, that just isn't my C). Anywho, I was able to get the appointment scheduled quickly but didn't even think to ask what would be occurring at the first appointment. Yeah, well, imagine my surprise when they said they would be "scratching" C in his back 22 times. I immediately felt upset and as I held onto his arms and he squired and screamed, I could barely hold back my own tears. Yes, I am a huge baby when my baby is in pain. When he was bit by a dog on his finger and they had to irrigate the wound, insert the needle to numb it and wrap him up, I let the tears flow but tried to be reassuring at the same time. Well, they finally discovered that at the age of 2 none of the scratches showed a reaction and they have suggested getting retested at age 4. I feel awful for putting him through the testing, but even the doctor was astonished when he came back in 20 minutes later and saw no reaction to any of the allergens.

So where does that leave us? That means he doesn't need any allergy medication at this time. If this fall he starts having multiple colds within a month again, I have to go back and see the Allergist. Otherwise it is just a wait and see kind of game. Just like everything else. However, we were made aware of his mouth breathing which we knew he did at night. He is on Nasonex (don't get me started on that subject LOL). But we are hoping this might help with his waking in the middle of the night as well. Yes, my 2 year old still won't sleep through the night and I am praying that one day it just clicks, or his nasal passageway opens with the Nasonex and he can breath comfortably and sleep!

Medically we are all caught up... until my appointment on Monday and then every Monday thereafter until Emilee decides to make her appearance.

Which brings me to what the rest of our time has been spent. Remember that list I made a post or so back about the beautiful mess we live in. Well, I can officially say that it's a beautiful HOUSE we live in. My husband has been so dedicated to getting all the items accomplished so that we can have a stress-free, mess-free house for Emilee's arrival.

1. The door to the basement was installed, by Mr. DIY because he refused to pay the astronomical prices that handymen wanted in the city. It is so nice to have that complete. Our dining room looks like it is complete finally.

2. The bathtub in the kids bathroom.... is fixed! Where we thought it was the tub malfunctioning there might have been an error in installation (hell, I couldn't have installed it!) But, after a quick fix we are leak-free. Connor has enjoyed his bathtimes in his bathroom with his toys. Our guests can once again use the 3rd floor shower without any worries that they are going to ruin the ceiling in our bedroom haha!

3. Emilee's room is looking like the nursery I dreamed of. We had plans of keeping it a nursery/guest room/office but we realized quickly that I never used the computer up there because it would wake C up, and inevitably E up. So, we moved all of the office furniture out, sold some items and everything else went to the basement. Now we have the nursery set up. AND, K worked so hard on creating the most beautiful name display I have ever seen. Aunt Jenna had created the letters for the room as a sprinkle gift. And when I had hung them with 3m hooks i thought it was complete. Except every other night a new letter would fall down and I was so worried that they were going to break! So, Kyle came up with an idea and next thing I know the name display above the crib was complete and hung and BEAUTIFUL! Her clothes are washed and put away and sorted by sizes. The only thing we have left to do is purchase a mattress and put it in the crib. Plus maybe a picture here or there for the walls. Otherwise, her room is just waiting on her!

4. Connor's room is looking rather normal. All of his books did come out though due to the shelf wanting to collapse. Instead, Kyle built two new shelves for the hallway. The kids now can pick out their books there and take it to their room for a story before bed. Connor loves this. After bath and brushing his teeth he runs out and stands scanning all the different options, grabs one (or two) and then runs towards his room to his bed. We have his baby monitor installed and hidden and we are looking at white noise machines as he tends to do better having white noise throughout the night (again, reaching for that sleeping through the night concept!).

5. Our bedroom is coming along. The doorway that leads through the walk-thru closet into the bathroom has been finished off. When the home was remodeled they never installed the wooden pieces to keep it from swinging through the doorway. So, C had a favorite game of "push-the-door-until-it-almost-breaks". Now, he can't push it anywhere except closed! We have all the items set up for the first few weeks after Emilee's birth and our bathroom is looking organized for once!

We have plenty of cleaning and organizing to do between now and September but I have taken on the approach of relaxing. Connor and I try to have lots of snuggle time during the day and we do some fun things outside of the house--- nothing super fun like we used to but chasing him around the park to keep him from hazards is not my idea of a fantastic day. I cleaned up the back patio and on nice days he plays out back while I watch him use his imagination and excellent cleaning skills on his toys.

I know this post was exceptionally long and, no, I do not have any photos to add to the bottom right now. But I felt that I needed to update. This weekend/week we are spending with Kyle's parents. They are coming up on Saturday and then staying until Wednesday. So, the likelihood of me updating this again until after then is very unlikely.

So I leave you with a wish of a fantastic weekend and week and hopefully next time I update we will be even close to meeting Emilee OR maybe meeting her if I don't get around to the post before then haha!

Take Care!

"This should be interesting..."

After getting both kids to bed (before 8pm mind you!) I have finally had time to sit down and decompress. My morning started out with Emilee stirring in her crib around 4am. I quickly grabbed her and put her in our bed to fall back asleep as she normally does. She started stirring around again at 6am which was my cue to get out of bed and get dressed and ready to leave for her eye appointment. I woke up with that "this should be an interesting day" feeling and low and behold, it was. It was 6:55 when I realized that our wonderful sitter hadn't arrived yet. She is never late, even the one time she thought she was going to be late she was still five minutes early. So when she wasn't here at 7, my mind went crazy. Was she in an accident, had something happened with her family... the list went on with the craziness of Philly news. I sent a text at 7:05 and nothing. I finally switched from worried mom mode to get-in-the-damn-car mode to make the appointment on time. (I...

I am One Month!

Wow how time really flies! Things were so hectic at the end of the pregnancy that I realized I never kept you updated. Birth Story: Well, long story short on 22 July at 10am my water broke. I called L & D and they said to come on in to get monitored and to check the fluid levels etc. Kyle and I thought maybe we weren't really going to be admitted (you know maybe I had had an accident haha). We decided to do the trip to the hospital as a trial run. We got what was left of our bags packed, loaded up the car and stopped at Wendy's for some Chicken Nuggets. (I wanted to make sure I ate something in case I was really in labor and wouldn't get food for a while (Smart thinking on our part!).) So we arrive, they do some awesome monitoring and evaluation and sure enough there was a water leak! They said I would have 24 hours to deliver otherwise they would have to do a c-section. Well for those of you who are reading this and know me, I was scared of getting a c-section (as...

Weeks 23 and 24

Once again things got pretty busy and I did not update for week 23. This is mainly because my sister, brother in-law and nephew came for a visit! It was a great week full of food, Blue Angel Practice Show, Exploreum, putt putt golfing, some shopping and so much more! It was a great opportunity for Kyle and me to be tourists in the town we live in. All in all it was awesome to spend time with the family and show them around. 23 weeks was rather uneventful in terms of Connor. We did have a doctors appointment last Monday and the doctor wrote me a prescription for Nexium for the AWFUL acid reflux that I was having. Now I can enjoy food again without the terrible burning sensations. He also told us that the 20 week ultrasound showed a nice healthy baby with "no gross abnormalities". I could finally sigh in relief knowing that the ultrasound came back great. Now to actually see Connor and check for all 10 fingers and toes! Otherwise he is kicking and hitting up a storm. Kyle was...
