It took all weekend for it to finally sink in that we would be adding a little girl to our family in the fall.
Let me take you back to to Friday at 8am. Kyle and I were driving to the doctors office in an elated- "I can't wait to see if we broke the trend" but yet still anticipating that it would be a boy. After paperwork and 15 minutes past our appointment time we were taken back to the room and got to see the baby. The technician did measurements and the head and feet and legs and then paused and said "you have yourself a little girl..." SAY WHAT?!" We froze. We broke it. I seriously have never been so quiet in my life. At the same time my heart rate increased and I realized that the family was going to be just as excited as we were. The measurements were completed and the doctor came in to say that the baby looked beyond healthy and that I had to do a follow up at 30 weeks because of our clotting disorder and their recommendations were somewhat different then the military hospital in terms of post partum care. Things we can decide later on. Before we departed though the technician was eager to "double check" her work to ensure it was a girl. And.... Three lines were there.
So once we finished that fun stuff we realized it was time to break the news to the grandparents. Of course my parents were elated and confused as I continually messed with them about the gender. Kyles mom was in total shock but so excited. Next came a three hour car ride to Maryland for Easter weekend. We used that time to try to hide the excitement and started talking about names. Golly am I picky!
We kept the baby's gender a secret until we showed up at dinner. I passed out a riddle in an envelope and made the family work for the answer. I enjoyed it haha. Finally, the answer was given and they found out we were having a little girl!
Next came taming down the excitement. We are thrilled to bring a girl into the family but this comes at a price. Frilly dresses and bows and PINK. Most people understand my undesirable hatred toward pink. I own maybe 1 pink shirt among many blue shirts. We kindly ask that pink is kept to a minimum. Purple, yellow, greens, blues are welcomed in excess but pink can be an accessory to it. Like polka dots, stripes, a jacket, a onesie. I know we probably sound nuts but I don't foresee us needing to scream "I'm A Girl" to the world as we didn't dress C in all blues and on numerous occasions I got asked if he was a she. :-).
Similarly we would like to avoid "princess" at all costs. I am not sure why it bothers me BUT I aim to have our children entitled to what they earn. Whereas princess is someone born into royalty and maintains an image of royalty. Not a fan. Connor is spoiled, but he also earns the toys he gets. A new book, I love reading and will buy this kid any book he wants to instill the love for reading as well. A hot wheels car, after 2-3 successful trips out of the house without tantrums he earns a new car or racetrack. Unless daddy is along and just can't pass up one of the cars he sees. I don't call my son prince and I won't call my daughter princess. However, if they forget that I am Queen of the house.... :-P.
Sigh. I probably sound like a total nut job. But I wanted to explain myself before anyone was offended by my no pink/ no princess rule.
So on to a lighter and more fun subject, today is the halfway point!!!!! 20 weeks. I am thrilled and seriously done with pregnancy. Touching my toes is impossible and I need a freaking pedicure before the beach in 2 weeks!!!! My husband painted my toenails once during my pregnancy with Connor and he kept saying how it was like painting model cars.... Thanks honey ;-) I think I'll go to a place where I can't understand what they are saying to or about me ;-).
Here's some pictures for ya
No matter how hard I tried to avoid the baby section of target.... I did successfully leave with only 2 items!
Miss Emilee Harper Reese <3
My 20 week monstrosity of a belly. Actually it's not that bad because she is moving UP more into my ribs and leaving the bladder area alone. Yay!
And that's all folks!
